Honouring Your Vibes, and...Energetic Hygiene!

Have you ever paid any attention to how you feel after being at work, at the shops, or in the company of others?


Sometimes we feel uplifted, excited, inspired, or calm, and peaceful. Other times we can feel down, drained, zapped, flat, depressed or irritated! Sometimes what people say and do can be different from the energy that we pick up on when we are interacting with them, and that can be really confusing!


Rather than calling everyone out on the stuff we notice and trying to control things outside of ourselves, it is far easier, and more empowering, to simply honour and acknowledge how we feel, and adjust our own behaviour accordingly.


If you feel 'icky' or triggered after an interaction, acknowledge that. Take some time out from the situation to get back into your own space and energy. If you feel constantly triggered by the same thing, consider stepping back for awhile. It is okay to see people less, to be less available, to share less of your inner world, and to give less of your time and energy as you work through discomfort. You can still value others and be kind, whilst honouring yourself, and taking the time you need to reflect and stabilise.


Other energetic hygiene practises that can help to clear your energy and lift your mood include; debrief with a trusted friend or family member to gain a different perspective and diffuse emotion, have a salt bath, be in nature, go for a walk, ride a bike, go for a swim, any form of exercise will work! Burn sage, incense or Palo Santo. Use Tibetan bells or sound bowls to diffuse energy. Get outside with your bare feet on the grass, listen to music, laugh!


You can also quite literally call your energy back to you. Here's how;


At the end of the day, find a quiet place to sit, or lying in bed, take a couple of deep breaths. Say, "I call all of my energy back to me now" then imagine your energy returning to you across all time and space, from all your interactions, thoughts, and feelings, throughout the day. Imagine little sparkles of light coming back into your centre. Feel this golden light flowing in, filling up, streaming back in, restoring you and revitalising your energy. Keep calling it back in with your breathe. Notice the golden, sparkles of light returning home to you. Feel yourself calming, and returning to peace. That's it! Do this as a daily practise and see what a difference it makes.
